Refund Policy

Last updated: 25 September 2026

This policy explains how to request a refund for Open Sound Meter purchases. Your statutory withdrawal rights and remedies for defective products or services remain unaffected.

1. Purchases through Paddle

Paddle is the seller for purchases completed through our Paddle checkout. Refunds are processed through Paddle.

To request a refund, contact us at alex@opensoundmeter.com. Please include the email address used for your purchase and, if available, your order or transaction number. A brief description of the issue helps us process your request.

You can also submit your request directly through paddle.net. The Paddle Refund Policy applicable at the time of purchase also applies.

If you wish to exercise your statutory right of withdrawal, please send your notice directly to Paddle within the withdrawal period. Our handling of a refund request does not extend that period. You do not need to give a reason for exercising a statutory right of withdrawal.

You may also contact us where no statutory refund entitlement applies. We consider discretionary refunds on a case-by-case basis. This does not constitute a general money-back guarantee.

2. Purchases through the Apple App Store

To request a refund for the iPad app or in-app purchases made through Apple, visit reportaproblem.apple.com.

Apple reviews requests and processes refunds under its applicable terms and the relevant law. We cannot reverse App Store payments ourselves. To exercise a statutory right of withdrawal, use the contact methods provided by Apple in your purchase documents.

For technical problems with Open Sound Meter, contact us at alex@opensoundmeter.com.

3. Statutory right of withdrawal

Consumers in Germany and the European Union generally have a statutory right to withdraw from an online contract within 14 days of entering into it. The period does not begin before the required withdrawal information has been provided. The following specific rules apply to digital content and services.

Downloadable software

For paid digital content, the right of withdrawal may expire before the end of the 14-day period only if all of the following conditions are met:

  • You expressly consented to performance of the contract beginning before the withdrawal period expired.

  • You acknowledged that you would lose your right of withdrawal once performance began.

  • The provider has begun performing the contract.

  • You received confirmation of the contract, including these declarations, on a durable medium, such as email.

Accepting our Terms & Conditions or registering an account does not, by itself, meet these requirements.

Cloud services

For ongoing cloud services, activation or first use alone does not cause the right of withdrawal to expire.

If you expressly requested that the service begin during the withdrawal period and were properly informed of the consequences, you may be required to pay a reasonable proportionate amount for services provided before withdrawal. By contrast, no payment for use is due when you validly withdraw from a contract for downloadable digital content.

Exercising your right and receiving a refund

Clearly notify the relevant seller that you wish to withdraw from the contract. Use the contact methods stated in your purchase confirmation or withdrawal notice. Paddle also provides an online withdrawal function in its customer portal for eligible transactions.

You may use the model withdrawal form supplied by the seller, but you do not have to. Sending your withdrawal notice before the deadline is sufficient to meet the time limit.

Following a valid withdrawal, reimbursement is generally made within 14 days of the seller receiving your notice, using the original payment method and without additional refund fees. A different payment method may be expressly agreed, provided this does not result in any costs to you.

The relevant seller provides the specific withdrawal notice in connection with your purchase. Any additional statutory rights and rights granted under the seller’s terms remain unaffected.

4. Cancelling a subscription

Cancellation ends your future contractual commitment on the applicable termination date. It does not automatically entitle you to a refund for past subscription periods. Non-use alone does not create a refund entitlement.

For consumers in Germany, after the initial contract term, the subscription may be cancelled with no more than one month’s notice, as described in our Terms & Conditions. Advance payments covering the period after the effective termination date will be refunded proportionately.

Statutory withdrawal rights, remedies for defective products or services, and other statutory refund rights remain unaffected.

Manage Paddle subscriptions through the Paddle customer portal or paddle.net. As provided in our Terms & Conditions, you may also send a cancellation notice for your Paddle subscription to alex@opensoundmeter.com. Subscriptions purchased through Apple are managed through your Apple subscription settings.

5. Technical problems and purchase errors

If purchased features are not activated, the software does not work as agreed, or you have been charged twice, contact us at alex@opensoundmeter.com.

We will investigate and help resolve the issue or arrange a refund through the relevant seller. Statutory remedies, including having the product or service brought into conformity with the contract, a price reduction or termination of the contract, are subject to the applicable legal requirements and exist independently of any discretionary refund.

6. Effect of a refund

If a Desktop Pro purchase is fully reversed, the associated perpetual Pro entitlement ends. If you have a separate active Pro + Cloud subscription, the Pro features included in that subscription remain available for its duration. Otherwise, you can continue using Community.

If a Pro + Cloud subscription purchase is reversed, the associated entitlement is ended or adjusted accordingly. A separately purchased Desktop Pro licence and an independently purchased iPad app remain unaffected.

A partial refund does not automatically revoke the entire entitlement. Any changes depend on the reason for the refund and its agreed scope.
