About the project
Open Sound Meter was created as a new approach to audio measurement software: simple, intuitive and fast.
Pavel Smokotnin started development in 2017, and the first version was released in 2018. Much of the work focused on mathematical methods that make measurements accurate and the application stable and responsive, without excessive CPU load. This led to solutions including data low-pass filters and the log-time-window transform. The goal remains the same: precise measurements with a straightforward workflow.
The iPad version followed in 2021.
In 2025, Pavel and Alexandra Smokotnina founded Ehrenaudio GmbH in Cologne, Germany. Open Sound Meter is now developed and distributed through the company, with Pavel leading development and Alexandra serving as CEO.
In 2026, Ehrenaudio introduced Ehren.DSP, a software DSP for real-time audio processing.
Developer
Pavel Smokotnin is a sound engineer, programmer and the creator of Open Sound Meter. His passion is sound and mathematics.
He combines practical experience in live sound with a strong background in signal processing. That experience shapes Open Sound Meter’s features and workflow. He also develops other software and devices for professional audio.
